This weeks drink of the week comes from Florida and every teenage guys’ fantasy. The Sex On The Beach is a delicious cocktail famous for both its flavor and its name. This fruity and tropical drink is the perfect summertime drink, it was practically designed to be enjoyed with sand between your toes. As the legend goes; in 1987 a distributor had just started selling a new Peach Schnapps and in attempt to spread the word they offered a challenge to the bars they supplied, whichever bar sold the most of their new drink would be given $1000, and the bartender that sold the most would be given $100. A true innovator named Ted whipped up this delicious mix and was quickly inundated with orders for his new drink. When someone finally asked him what he called his new creation he had to do some quick thinking, he asked himself the biggest reason people came to Florida for spring break and Voila! The Sex On The Beach was born. The drink quickly rose to fame over the course of the Spring and before long everyone was talking about Sex On The Beach.

Notes

This delicious drink's popularity spread rapidly in the early '80s, due, no doubt, to its provocative name. The introduction of DeKuyper Peachtree Schnapps gave this drink its signature flavor along with cranberry juice. Alternate recipes use Suntory's Midori Melon Liqueur, also introduced early in the decade.
Tried this recipe?Let us know how it was!

After the drinks initial boom in Florida thousands of students flocked back to their home states and tried to order it. However, because it was a local recipe the bartenders did not know how to make it, thus many variations of the recipe are available throughout the world. The one you see here is the Exotic Ninja’s personal favorite, and I am sure it will be yours too. This week when you you enjoy your Sex On The Beach tip your glass to creative marketing and Ted, because without them this drink may never have come to be. Remember to post pictures of your Sex On The Beach (not that kind) with the hashtag ExoticNinja (21+ Please).
