5 Best St Patrick’s Day Drinks
March 17th is upon us. Which means it is time to celebrate the life of the foremost patron Saint of Ireland: St. Patrick.
When Patrick was 16 he was taken as a slave from his home in Great Britain by Irish raiders. They took him to Gaelic Ireland where he spent 6 years as a shepherd and found God. According to his writings he got a message from God telling him to flee to the coast where a ship would be waiting to take him home. After finding his way home he became a priest and eventually returned to convert thousands of pagan Irish to Christianity. He died on March 17th and was buried in Downpatrick Ireland.
Originally known as St Patrick’s Feast Day, the holiday has been celebrated since the ninth century in Ireland. In the early 1600’s St Patrick’s Feast Day was put on the universal liturgical calendar in the Catholic Church – thus becoming a holy day of obligation for Roman Catholics in Ireland. In 1903 St Patrick’s Day finally became a public holiday in Ireland. For a celebration over 1000 years old the important aspects have not changed, including my personal favorite – excessive drinking.
So to celebrate this most beloved of holidays here is a look at the best St Patrick’s Day Drinks.
Best St Patrick’s Day Drinks:

The earliest mention of the Leprechaun dates back to medieval times. According to the story a man passed out on a beach and awoke being dragged into the sea by three lúchorpáin. He captured his abductors and they granted him three wishes. What a better way to celebrate this story then getting so drunk you pass out on a beach and get rescued by your own leprechauns. Make sure one of your wishes is hangover immunity because by the end of the night the man in the moon will look like a leprechaun.

After one or two of these Irish Ladies your confidence will increase exponentially and soon you’ll have an Irish Lady to call your own. 1: Guinness
How could we forget the tried and true lifeblood of Ireland. There’s something magical about holding a Guinness in your hand, and something even more magical about holding it in your liver. They say the farther away you are from the Guinness Brewery the worse the drink tastes. If it’s this good in America it’s probably worth the one day pilgrimage to Ireland. St Patrick’s day is one of my favorite holidays. So I’d like to wish you a very happy St Patricks Day: from me, St Patrick, and this tall glass of Guinness.
(I tried to get my boss to pose in a Leprechaun outfit for this picture but he hasn’t celebrated quite enough yet)
